Mercury in Cement Kilns
On 30th November 2009 Dr Michael Clark, the technical consultant to
International Cement Review and CemNet, held a half-day seminar in Orlando,
Florida, on the subject of volatile emissions from cement kilns with a
particular focus on mercury emissions.
The Orlando seminar was very well received, leading to the
decision to make the seminar available on-line through the CemNet Training
website. Feedback from one participant was that: “We agree that the seminar was
useful and thought provoking. You did a great job both preparing and presenting
the material”. Another wrote that: “I enjoyed the seminar and would look forward
to applying it some time”.
Course Content
The content of the seminar was deliberately narrow and
limited to the potential effectiveness of a raw meal purge in reducing and
controlling mercury emissions from cement kilns.
The seminar includes 7 lectures, with simulations of the
behaviour of volatile species in cement kilns and their resultant emissions.
These 7 lectures will be made available on the CemNet Training website over a
period of 1 week for subscribers to the seminar. This will allow subscribers to
view and study the lectures at the times which are convenient for them and fit
in with their wider schedules. After 7 days the subscription will expire,
providing sufficient time to study the material in as a great a depth as
required by the particular subscriber.
Dr Clark will be leading the seminar and there will be the
opportunity to discuss the material with him and the other participants. Subscribers will also have the opportunity to discuss their experience
and challenges with the behaviour of mercury in their kiln systems.
Cost of a 7-day subscription to the seminar is US$350 per
subscription (€250 or £225).
We look forward to your participation!
