    Rotate kiln without auxilliary

    Dear All

We are facing a big break down due to the failure of kiln main drive gear box due to the failure pinion shaft brgs of main gear box now my question is

Can we rotate the kiln without auxilliary drive by the means of sling wire with loader or somewhat else, is any body has such experience?

    Regards

    Re: Rotate kiln without auxilliary

    Hello Tanbaig

yes it is possible but its is little bit difficult ..........

for this purpose, anchor (IE) for the sling or rope should be welded on right position.

By this way,  kiln would be rotate about 10 to 15 degree

but you can try may be you will see good result

by the way can you  write me the  cause of gearbox failure in detail

    thanx

    Best of Luck

    Mr. Baig,

We are interested to know the result of your attempt.

Will  this method  be successful in 10000 TPD (6.2 x 92) kiln. Hope that someone will be able to explain.

We have been doing that by winding steel rope around kiln's shell and then pulling by a crane or a loader truck.

I had the same experience with a "new" kiln. Failure of a kiln reducer is very unusual. It has the longest lifespan based on guarantee. Maybe the one I'll mention below will help.

Just make sure coupling (from gearbox) to girth gear is discoupled and possibly free the pinion gear as well during the process.

And because you have a big kiln, you need also a lot of power to rotate your kiln using the sling rope method - the more the better. Maybe a big crane or cranes lifting tangentially on one side and loader/s pulling on the ground on the other end will do.

If you have some strong foundation and some big hydraulic jacks, you can find some areas where you could try jacking the kiln. Some kilns have holes at the feed-end where they could jack the kiln using this method (with a large shaft and jacks) - primitive, but handy sometimes.
