In 2021 cement producers in the Dominican Republic manufactured 6.5Mt of cement, supplying a construction industry that saw 23.4 per cent growth as the country started its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Cement sales in the Dominican Republic fell by five per cent to 4,446,706t in 2020 from 4,703,347t in 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem, in its newly-published 2020 annual report. Portland cement production in the Dominican Republic increased 23.8 per cent YoY to 1,247,386t in the first quarter of 2021, according to the Asociación Dominicana de Productores de Cemento de Portland (ADOCEM). The Dominican Republic’s cement market is expected to contract by eight per cent in 2020, according to Julissa Báez, president of the Dominican cement association, ADOCEM. Cement sales in the Dominican Republic fell 20.3 per cent YoY to 1,835,598t in the first half of 2020 from 2,303,915t in the 1H19, reports the domestic cement association, Adocem.
