Venezuelan cement industry operates 40% capacity

The cement industry in Venezuela is operating at 40 per cent of its installed capacity, according to Orlando Chirinos, president of the Cement Workers Federation (Fetracemento). “The cement industry is totally paralysed, technically, because it is below its production capacity. Work on the kiln shutdown at Société de Ciments de Gabès cement plant in Tunisia began on 23 June 2022. The work is being carried out by Sotuqua.  The plant , which belongs to the Secil group has a cement capacity of 1.29Mta and is situated on the east coast of Tunisia.

Misr Cement (Qena) approves operations and maintenance programme

The board of directors of Misr Cement (Qena) have approved the operations and maintenance of the company’s factory, according to a filing to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX). The factory was managed by Arab Swiss Engineering Company (ASEC) under an agreement that ends ion 30 June 2022.   On 16 May Misr Cement (Qena) reported a 106 per cent YoY increase in consolidated profit attributable to controlling shareholders during the 1Q22, recording EGP59.631m (US$3.18m).

Norcem temporarily halts production at plants

Norway-based Norcem has suspended operations at its Brevik and Kjøpsvik plants due to annual scheduled maintenance work and the crash of a central mill engine at Kjøpsvik. In addition, a supplier who should have carried out some of the maintenance work dropped out. Part of the production has been replaced by imports. CEO John Sunde says the company expects stocks to cleared but was unable to say for how long.
