Dzata Cement set to begin operations at 1.2Mta plant

Cement prices rise in Ghana

Cement prices in Tamale, Ghana, have risen amid reports of a cement shortage, according to Ghana News Agency. Ghacem and Dangote Cement brands are being sold at GHS50 (US$8.68)/bag while Diamond Cement and other brands are currently around GHS48/bag, up from GHS47 and GHS45, respectively. Construction companies in the region are expected to pay the higher prices for the limited stock to complete their projects before the rainy season begins.

Supacem opens doors to Ghana's armed forces

Ghana's armed forces have been given a special a tour of the Supacem cement factory in Tema, Ghana. The army was visiting the facility after the cement company donated 850 bags of cement to the armed forced earlier this year. Ghana sees 4% drop in sales in 1Q20

Total cement sales in Ghana have fallen 3.9 per cent YoY in the first quarter of 2020. The 1Q volume in 2020 reached 814,979t, when compared with 848,259t in the 1Q19. The drop in cement sales has been attributed by the Bank of Ghana due to a slowdown in construction activity due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cement prices in Ghana have been affected by the sharp fluctuations int he Ghanaian cedi in comparison with the US dollar.

Dangote's 1H20 results see 2% revenue growth

Dangote Cement reported group revenue up two per cent to NGN476.9bn (US$1.23bn) in the 1H20. Group EBITDA rose to NGN218.1bn and pan-African EBITDA increased by 31.6 per cent to NGN31.5bn.
