Cemex announces divestment of operations in Austria, Hungary and Croatia

Cemex announced today that it has signed an agreement for the sale of its operations in Austria and Hungary to the Rohrdorfer Group for approximately EUR160.1m. The Austrian operations consist of 24 aggregate quarries (approximately 6.47Mt of aggregates sold in 2014) and 34 ready-mix plants (approximately 1.60Mm 3 of ready-mix sold in 2014). Hungary: Magyarország plant invests in alternative fuels storage facility

Lafarge Cement Magyarország opened a storage facility for waste that will be used to help fuel its plant in Királyegyháza, southwestern Hungary. The project, involving an investment of HUF700m (EUR2.2m), will be used to store plastic, rubber and  industrial and farm byproducts. Lafarge Cement Magyarország employs 130 people, and reported revenues of HUF8.3bn last year. 

Hungary: HCM needs help to relaunch cement production

Hungarian cement producer Hejocsabai Cement es Meszmu (HCM) will need government support to restart cement production at its Miskolc works, according to the company's managing director, Janos Kalman. Hungarian concrete firms fined EUR9m

Eight ready-mixed concrete companies and the Hungarian Concrete Association were fined a total HUF2.79bn (EUR9m) for setting prices and colluding on market share by the country’s competition office, the Gazdasági Versenyhivatal (GVH). The GVH said the cartel activity took place between 2005 and 2007 and cited the fact that meetings were held in high secrecy as an aggravating factor. Holcim to close Hungarian plant

Holcim is to close  its cement factory in the Hungarian city of Labatlan (N Hungary) by next year, communications director of Holcim Hungaria Zrt., Iren Marta told local press on Monday. Despite reporting an increase in 2011 cement sales, Czech cement producer Cement Hranice company expects a decline this year the Euro zone sovereign debt crisis and a continuing fall in construction output. Last year the company increased sales by 14.5 per cent last year to CZK1.69bn (EUR69m) following two years of declining sales due to a downturn in the domestic construction industry. Lafarge-Strabag complete test runs at new Hungary works

Lafarge and Strabag have successfully completed a test run at their Kiralyegyhaza cement plant in south west Hungary which they completed last autumn, Lafarge Cement Cement Magyarorszag managing director, Frederic Aubet, said at a press conference.
