Unprecedented fall in global cement output

The biggest fall in worldwide cement production in two decades has been recorded, according to the World Cement Association (WCA). The WCA reports that global cement output fell eight per cent YoY to 1.9bnt in the first six months of 2022. The fall was caused by a 15 per cent drop in output to 977Mt in the volume of cement produced in China, the WCA said. Manufacturing activity in China has returned to growth with the country’s purchasing managers’ index for the manufacturing sector coming in at 50.1 in September, compared to 49.4 in the previous month, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Sinoma Overseas completes kiln inlet emission control test at Dujiangyan plant

On 9 September 2022, Sinoma Overseas successfully passed the performance assessment for the technological transformation project for ultra-low emission control of air pollutants at the kiln inlet of the Lafarge 1 cement production line in Dujiangyan, Sichuan province, China.   All indicators have reached the national environmental performance level A standard, which is far better than the contract required, says Sinoma Overseas.

Chia Hsin reports 10% increase in August sales

Chia Hsin Cement posted revenues of TWD182.371m (US$5.9m) in August 2022, up 9.8 per cent from TWD166.022m in August 2021. In the January-August 2022 period, Chia Hsin’s sales slipped by 4.5 per cent to TWD1388.559m from TWD1453.918m in 8M21.

Taiwan Cement posts 19% increase in 8M revenues

Taiwan Cement saw a 19.2 per cent advance in revenues to TWD10,689.86m (US$345.9m) in August 2022 from TWD8966.476m in August 2021. In the first eight months of 2022 total revenue edged up 2.5 per cent to TWD68,937.1m from TWD67,307.8m in the 8M21.

Asia Cement posts TWD59bn revenue in 8M22

Taiwan-based Asia Cement Corp reported a 1.7 per cent drop in revenues to TWD7.069bn (US$228.5m) in August 2022 when compared with the TWD7.193bn posted in August 2021. In the first eight months of 2022 revenues saw a 8.1 per cent YoY advance from TWD54.657bn to TWD59.103bn.

Dongwu Cement appoints executive vice president

China's Dongwu Cement International Ltd has appointed Mr Xu Zhenghua as executive vice president, effective from 24 August 2022. Mr Xu brings with him extensive experience in business operations and management, having served as general manager and assistant general manager at Shanghai Xinhai Aviation Co Ltd, as well as deputy general manager at Oriental International Logistics Co Ltd. He has also previously held various roles at Shanghai Xinhai International Shipping Agency Co Ltd. 

West China Cement issues profit warning

West China Cement has issued a profit warning for the six months ended 30 June 2022. According to the company, net profit attributable to shareholders is expected to fall by 40-45 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier. Asia Cement reports TWD4458m net profit in 2Q22

Taiwan’s Asia Cement Corp posted revenues of TWD24,488m (US$816.3m) in the second quarter of 2022, up 9.2 per cent when compared with the 2Q21.  Pretax profit came in at TWD5620m in the period under review, down 17.4 per cent from TWD6805m in the year-ago period. The company also saw a net profit of TWD4458m in the 2Q22, representing a 1.3 per cent decrease when compared with the 2Q21, when net profit reached TWD4515m.

Sumitomo Osaka Cement reports JPY1bn loss

Japan-based Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co Ltd reported a 1QFY22-23 revenue of JPY45.5bn (US$337.4m), up from JPY43.78bn in the 1QFY21-22. The company posted an operating loss of JPY3.15bn in the 1QFY22-23, in contrast to a 1QFY21-22 operating profit of JPY2.92bn.
