Cement imports from Belarus threaten Russian production

Rising imports from Belarus may hit cement production in Russia, according to the real estate office of the RIA Novosti agency. Cement imports from Belarus have increased by 61 per cent YoY in September-October 2022 to 434,000t. The Iranian cement market expanded 0.3 per cent to 5.22Mt in October 2022 from 5.05Mt in October 2021, according to the Iranian cement association. Domestic cement production in October 2022 reached 5.66Mt, up 3.6 per cent from 5.46Mt in October 2021. Clinker production edged up from 7.02Mt in October 2021 to 7.09Mt on year later. Cement consumption in Argentina has decreased by 0.8 per cent YoY and 6.7 per cent MoM to 1,131,593t in October 2022 from 1,140,962t in October 2021, according to the Argentine Portland cement association, AFCP. Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 2.1 per cent YoY to 1.188Mt in September 2022 when compared with September 2021, when 1.164Mt of cement were dispatched, according to the country’s statistics agency, DANE. Italy saw cement output decline by eight per cent YoY in August 2022, according to the country’s construction chamber, Federbeton. When compared with the 2015 base index production the value dropped from 100 in July 2022 to 61 in August. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 7.3 per cent YoY advance to 10.9Mt in August 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Fiona sends Puerto Rican cement sales down

Hurricane Fiona has sent Puerto Rican cement sales in a downward spiral as sales in September 2022 dropped by 21.1 per cent YoY to 986,000 bags of 94lb, or 42,041t, the largest fall since 2020, according to Sin Comillas. Domestic cement production declined 17.5 per cent YoY to 509,900 bags, or 21,741t in September 2022. The decrease represents the first fall in six months.

Argentina’s cement market expanded 9.2 per cent YoY but contracted 1.1 per cent MoM to 1,212,814t in September 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.
