Exports to Romania may cause shortage to Bulgaria market
04 July 2008

Unregulated cement exports to Romania may trigger a shortage on the Bulgarian market, Todor Kostov, executive director of cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates supplier Holcim Bulgaria said on July 2, 3008.

Holcim Bulgaria is wholly focused on the domestic market but many of the holding company’s partners ship in Romania, which is experiencing an undersupply. Demand outstrips supply in Bulgaria as well and the company bridges the gap with ready-mix products.

Holcim Bulgaria plans to boost by 30 per cent the production capacity of its plants in Beli Izvor and Pleven, both in the north. The project will be completed by 2009.

The price of cement in Bulgaria may increase due to the surging fuel, coal and electricity prices, said Kostov. He added that the price of coal has doubled since the start of the year whereas electricity bills will grow up to 25 per cent costlier retroactively.
