Cement demand in Peru increased by 1.4 per cent YoY in February 2018 to 0.824Mt from 0.812Mt, according to the latest data by Asocem, the country’s cement association. When compared with January 2018, the decline is 1.4 per cent from 0.861Mt.

Cement sales by domestic producers in Peru slipped 0.2 per cent YoY to 0.735Mt in February 2018. When compared with the previous month, the decline was 7.8 per cent from 0.798Mt.

Cement production in February 2018 fell to 0.717Mt from 0.802Mt in January, representing a 10.6 per cent fall MoM. When compared to February 2018, output fell 6.4 per cent. Clinker output in February dropped 15.3 per cent to 0.564Mt from 0.666Mt the previous month. In February 2017 clinker production reached 0.606Mt with 2018 figures representing a 7.4 per cent fall.

Domestic production was supplemented by 88,200t of imported cement, up 17 per cent YoY from 75,200t, and 89,100t of clinker, a 97 per cent advance YoY from 45,200t.

Cement exports fell 22 per cent YoY to 20,100t in February 2018 from 25,700t in the year-ago period, while exports of clinker more than quadrupled from 20,200t to 88,500t.

In the first two months of the year, cement demand reached 1.685Mt. This represents an 0.4 per cent fall when compared with 1.691Mt in 2M17.

In January-February 2018, cement sales by domestic producers in Peru totalled 1.533Mt, representing a 1.9 per cent YoY decrease.

For the 2M18, Peru’s cement companies produced 1.519Mt of cement and 1.232Mt of clinker, representing a YoY decrease of three and 1.6 per cent, respectively.

Cement imports reached 151,500t in January-February 2018, an advance of 18.6 per cent when compared with 127,700t in the 2M17. Imports of clinker expanded to 131,900t, nearly tripling from 45,200t as such imports ceased in February.

In terms of cement exports, some 50,000t of cement were exported in 2M18, down 3.1 per cent YoY from 51,600t in the previous year’s first two months.
