Cement sales in Cyprus fall over first five months

Cement sales in Cyprus fell 10 per cent from January to May compared to the same period a year ago to 170,684t, Cystat, the country’s statistical service, said. In May alone, there was a two per cent drop to 38,053t compared to the same month last year, Cystat said in a statement on its website. Tunisian cement demand falls 6.5% in 4M15

In the first four months of 2015, the Tunisian cement marked contracted by 6.5 per cent YoY to 2.4Mt, according to the latest data revealed by Taoufik Khardani, deputy director of building materials industries at the country’s Ministry of Industry. However, exports were up by 28 per cent from 461,000t to 590,000t. Tunisia’s cement producers manufactured 2.98Mt of cement, down 5.6 per cent on 4M14, when 3.16Mt of cement was produced.

PCA: 'global cement consumption on the rise'

Global cement consumption is expected to grow through 2015 and 2016, with North America leading recent gains in the developed world, according to a report released by the Portland Cement Association (PCA). Argentinian cement deliveries up 8.3% YoY in May

In May 2015 Argentina’s cement plants shipped 1,001,540t of cement (including exports), representing a five per cent drop compared to last April, but up 7.8 per cent YoY, according to the Argentinian cement producers' association, AFCP. The domestic market expanded by 8.3 per cent YoY as 996,149t were delivered within the country’s borders. When compared with the previous month, a 4.7 per cent fall was noted.

Spain: April cement demand up 13% YoY

Cement consumption in Spain has expanded by 13.3 per cent to 961,712t in April 2015 when compared with April 2014, according to cement association, Oficemen. For the first four months, domestic demand increased by 9.7 per cent YoY to 3,514,175t “Although the data are starting to look much better, we know a lot of work remains to be done, because we do not expect to achieve a full recovery before the end of the next decade,” said Aniceto Zaragoza, Oficemen CEO.

Morocco sees monthly demand uptick

Moroccan cement orders increased 3.35 per cent in April to 1.38Mt from 1.33Mt in April 2014. The regional markets in particular supported this growth with Oued Eddahab reporting sales up by 49.05 per cent in April, followed by Doukkala-Abda (+41.23 per cent) and Gharb-Cherarda-Bhssen (+20.26 per cent). Steppe Cement has swung to a FY pretax loss of US$8.1m in 2014 from a US$13m profit in the previous year. Revenue totalled US$116.63m in 2014 versus US$127.98m in the year before. The net loss amounted to US$7.9m from a profit of US$10.5m in 2013.
