On 7 October 2021, the Baltic Dry Index, a global indicator of bulk freight rates, reached 5670, marking its highest level since September 2008. Royal Bodewes to build two new cement carriers

Dutch shipbuilder Royal Bodewes has received an order to build two more cement carriers for Cyprus-based Eureka Shipping, according to MarineLink. The two newbuilds will be the fourth and fifth in a series of vessels for Eureka, a joint venture between SMT Cement Ships and the CSL Group. The self-discharging carriers will be sisters to Aalborg White, ordered in 2017 and delivered in 2019.

Tarmac rail freight to be powered by renewables

Port of Malaga to move 50,000t of cement and clinker in single week

The Port of Malaga, Spain, expects to move around 50,000t of clinker and cement this week.  From 22 March, the Nordanhav is loading 9500t of cement at Pier 6 by Financiera y Minera and Opemar. The Ultra Passion will be adding 40,000t of clinker at Pier 7 as of 25 March.

Indian railways see 26% rise in cement freight

The volume of cement transported by Indian railways increased 26 per cent YoY in the September-December quarter to 35.5Mt, according to the Ministry of Railways. This also represented a 35 per cent growth compared to the 2QFY20-21. The rise in cement freight has been attributed to a seasonal improvement in construction activity across the country. However, freight costs rose six per cent YoY and three per cent QoQ, according to a report by JM Financial.

CemProspects reports major developments in petcoke and freight

Russia transports 11.18Mt of cement by rail in 1H20

In the first half of 2020, Russia’s cement producers shipped 11.18Mt of cement by rail, a 9.7 per cent decline YoY. Eurocement’s plants accounted for 37.5 per cent of the shipments, largely consistent with 37.7 per cent in the 1H19.
