Local authority spending underpinning Italian cement demand

Iranian cement consumption rose 15.2 per cent YoY in February 2024 to 4.93Mt, up from 4.28Mt, according to the Iranian cement association. Producers manufactured 5.13Mt of cement and 5.04Mt of clinker in February, an increase of 11.8 and 18.9 per cent, respectively, when compared with February 2023. Argos Honduras breaks clinker production record in 2023

Argos Honduras has set a new record in clinker production in 2023, increasing clinker output by three per cent. The company attributes the new record to the successful implementation of its US$1.1m hydrogen injection project. Domestic cement sales in Turkey came in at 5.602Mt in December 2023, down 5.5 per cent MoM and 14.9 per cent YoY, according to Turkey’s cement manufacturers association, Türkçimento. Thai domestic cement sales, excluding clinker, came in at 3.74Mt in December 2023, up 28.1 per cent MoM and 25.5 per cent YoY, according to Thailand’s Office of Industrial Economics (OIE). Cement consumption in Argentina fell 23.5 per cent YoY to 684,960t in February 2024 from 895,938t in February 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Japan cement sales shrank 5.5 per cent YoY in the first month of 2024, marking a continuing trend. Sales were 2.389Mt in January, down from 2.527Mt a year earlier, according to the Japan Cement Association (JCA).
