Peruvian cement dispatches saw a five per cent uptick in May 2022 to 1.117Mt from 1.066Mt in May 2021, according to the national cement association, Asocem. Puerto Rican cement sales in May 2022 declined 4.9 per cent YoY to 1.32m bags of 42.6kg, or 56,282t, according to the Puerto Rican Institute of Statistics. While the drop represents the sixth consecutive fall, sales are 8.8 per cent higher than in May 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. Portland and blended cement deliveries in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 3.3 per cent YoY uptick in March 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). A total of 45 per cent of deliveries were received by the five top consuming states – Texas, California, Florida, Arizona and Georgia. Colombian cement dispatches saw a 3.7 per cent YoY uptick to 1.089Mt in April 2022 from 1.051Mt in April 2021, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Of this total bulk sales increased by 12.2 per cent, reflecting the growth in the ready-mix concrete sector, which expanded its offtake by 15.6 per cent YoY. Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 24.5 per cent to 1,087,998t in May 2022 when compared with May 2021 when 874,188t was sold in the domestic market, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement production in Italy increased by nine per cent in March 2022 when compared with the 2015 baseline index of 100, according to Federbeton, the country’s concrete association. Uzbekistan produced 2.448Mt of cement in the first quarter of 2022, down from 1.949Mt in the 1Q22, according State Statistics Committee. In the January-March 2022 period Uzbekistan imported 425,300t of cement with a total value of US$16.7m, representing an average price of US$39/t. When compared with the 1Q21 import volumes fell by 342,000t. In 2022 the country expects to significantly increase cement capacity from 21.3Mt in 2021 to 31Mt.

Cement consumption in Iran reached 4Mt in April 2022, according to the Iranian cement association. The country produced 6.99Mt of clinker, of which it exported 0.79Mt. Cement production stood at 4.56Mt, which was mostly destined for domestic markets although 0.42Mt was exported.
