Strong start to 2024 for Senegal cement

Domestic cement sales in Senegal grew 3.3 per cent YoY in January 2024, coming in at 0.666Mt compared to 0.645Mt in January 2023, according to the country’s national statistics office, DPEE. Italian cement slips in 2023 with moderate 2024 forecast

Italian cement output expanded eight per cent YoY in December 2023, according to the Italian concrete association, Federbeton. This was largely driven by robust demand from local public sector works, which totaled EUR18.1bn in the year to December. Cement dispatches in Colombia declined 4.2 per cent YoY to 0.891Mt in January 2024 when compared with 0.93Mt dispatched in January 2023, reports the country’s statistics office, DANE. Total US and Puerto Rican shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, remained stable at 7.1 per cent in December 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Iran’s cement market expanded 30.4 per cent YoY to 5.27Mt in January 2024 from 4.04Mt in January 2023, according to the Iranian cement association. Domestic cement producers manufactured 5.78Mt of cement and 6.21Mt of clinker in the first month of 2024, representing an increase of 33.2 and 31.8 per cent, respectively, when compared with January 2023. Uzbek cement output surges in January 2023

Uzbekistan’s cement plants produced 627,000t of cement in January 2024, a 2.3-fold increase YoY, according to the country’s statistics agency. In 2023 output from Uzbek cement plants was 11.93Mt. In September 2023 a UZS3.8trn (US$312.6m) project was launched in Samarkand with assistance from CHINA Energy International Group. The new plant will produce M-400 and M-500 Portland cement at a rate of 7500tpd or 3Mta. The factory reportedly created 500 new jobs.

Azerbaijan increased its cement production by 23.2 per cent YoY to 251,600t in January 2024, according to the State Statistics Committee. Cement dispatches in Peru increased nine per cent to 1.016Mt in January 2024 when compared with 0.928Mt in January 2023, according to the Peruvian cement association, ASOCEM. Total cement dispatches of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico, including imports, picked up by 2.6 per cent YoY to 8.7Mt in November 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Lebap Cement exceeds 1Mt production in 2023

The Lebap cement plant in Turkmenistan produced more than 1Mt of cement of various grades last year. About 107,500t of cement were sent to neighbouring Uzbekistan last year, reports Turkmenportal. The plant’s specialists are optimistic about the future, planning to increase product production along with improving its quality indicators.
