Cement production declined 14 per cent YoY in August 2021 to reach an index of 67, when compared with the base year of 2015, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico, including imports, advanced 4.9 per cent YoY to 10.1Mt in August 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The cement markets in Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois were particularly buoyant and accounted for 40 per cent of deliveries. The Iranian cement market expanded 34 per cent to 5.72Mt in September 2021 when compared with August 2021, when demand reached 4.27Mt, according to the Iranian cement association. Cement production in Iran reached 6.01Mt in September 2021, up 25.5 per cent MoM, while clinker production stood at 6.83Mt, representing a MoM increase of 34.4 per cent MoM. Cement dispatches in Peru advanced 14 per cent YoY and three per cent MoM to 1.238Mt in September, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico reached 9.6Mta, down 2.3 per cent YoY, in July 2021, according to the US Geological Survey. 1H cement sales fall 10% in Gabon

Gabon’s cement market contracted by 10.1 per cent to 197,246t in the 1H21 from 219,386t in the equivalent period of 2020, according to data by the country’s Ministry of Economy. In the first quarter of 2021 sales reached 102,823t but a drop to 94,423t was reported for the 2Q21. Colombian cement dispatches picked up 4.3 per cent to 1.098Mt in August 2021 from 1.052Mt in August 2020, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Argentinian cement demand increased seven per cent YoY to 1,110,527t in September 2021 from 1,037,475t in September 2021, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Cement demand in Bolivia advanced 40.6 per cent to 325,789t in July 2021 from 231,662t in July 2020 but remained 9.3 per cent below its 2019 level of 359,307t, according to national statistics office, INE. Italy's cement production index (base year 2015=100) reached 114 in July 2021, down six per cent when compared with July 2020, according to Federbeton, the Italian cement and concrete association.
