Puerto Rican cement sales see 14% drop in October

Cement sales in Puerto Rico declined 13.9 per cent YoY to 1.18m bags, or 50,312t, according to the country’s Economic Development Bank (BDE). It is the fifth-consecutive monthly fall and the lowest level since November 2020, according to Sin Comillas. However, the FY21 ends with a 31.7 per cent surge in sales – from 528.707t (12.4m bags) to 694,994t (16.3m bags) – and is the largest increase in 12 years. While year-to-date sales of cement in Brazil continue to be high in the period until October 2021, October’s stand-alone result has been seen as the worst of the year, according to the country’s cement association, SNIC. Argentina’s cement consumption increased 6.6 per cent YoY and 2.8 per cent MoM to 1,141,043t in October 2021, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. Ukraine sees production rise 15% YoY in 9M21

Cement production in Ukraine increased 15.2 per cent YoY in the first nine months of 2021, according to Ukrcement. The association also expects the country to consume more than 10Mt in the full-year for the first time since 2014. Cement production declined 14 per cent YoY in August 2021 to reach an index of 67, when compared with the base year of 2015, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico, including imports, advanced 4.9 per cent YoY to 10.1Mt in August 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Iranian cement market expanded 34 per cent to 5.72Mt in September 2021 when compared with August 2021, when demand reached 4.27Mt, according to the Iranian cement association. Cement dispatches in Peru advanced 14 per cent YoY and three per cent MoM to 1.238Mt in September, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Gabon’s cement market contracted by 10.1 per cent to 197,246t in the 1H21 from 219,386t in the equivalent period of 2020, according to data by the country’s Ministry of Economy. In the first quarter of 2021 sales reached 102,823t but a drop to 94,423t was reported for the 2Q21.
