The Senegalese cement market expanded by 158.7 per cent in April 2021, according to the Agence Nationale de la Statistique et de la Demographie. However, domestic output declined by 9.9 per cent while export sales slipped by 3.5 per cent YoY in April 2021.

Iranian cement demand reaches 5.78Mt in June 2021

The Iranian cement market consumed 5.78Mt of cement in June 2021, remaining level with the 5.78Mt reported in May. This demand was entirely met by local cement production, which reached 6.02Mt in June while clinker production stood at 6.75Mt. Portland and blended cement shipments, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico, saw a 19 per cent YoY increase to 9.7Mt in April 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The leading cement-consuming states were Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and Ohio, who accounted for a combined share of 40 per cent of total shipments. Peru’s cement market expanded by 66 per cent YoY to 1.085Mt in June 2021, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Three weeks after its restart, Empresa Püblica Productiva Cementos de Bolivia (ECEBOL) has achieved a capacity utilisation rate of 80 per cent, according to Bolivian President, Luis Arce. “Only three weeks after its reactivation, our Bolivian Cement Company is producing at 80% of its capacity, selling the product to La Paz, Oruro and Cochabamba. Egypt to cut cement manufacturing by 11%

Egypt's competition authority has approved a request by 23 cement manufacturers to temporarily reduce production to reduce output, setting a baseline cut at 10.69 per cent. The competition authority decision, dated 5 July, said there would be additional cuts of 2.81 per cent for each production line and further cuts depending on the company’s age, according to a Reuters report. The quotas would come into force on 15 July and remain in place for one year, the document said.

Argentina's cement market expanded by 20.5 per cent YoY and by 10% MoM to 961,340t in June 2021, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. Cement consumption in Bolivia surged to 286,667t in April 2021 from a very low base of 39,222t in April 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to INE, the country’s statistics agency. Colombian cement sales increased 15.5 per cent YoY to 815,400t in May 2021 from 705,900t in May 2020, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE.
