Turkish cement sales in the local market declined 41 per cent YoY in the January-April 2019 period due to a weak housing market, the overall slowdown in the country’s economy and unfavourable weather conditions, according to Nihat Ozdemir, head of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers' Association (TCMB). Total cement production in Austria rose 7.4 per cent YoY to 5.2Mt in 2018, according to data from the Austrian Cement Industry Association (VÖZ). Annual revenue increased 4.7 per cent to EUR431.5m. In the current year, the country posted a strong performance in cement sales during the first quarter, but this decreased to a moderate level in the 2Q19.

Tajikistan produces 1.6Mt of cement in 5M19

Cement producers in Tajikistan have manufactured 1.575Mt of cement in the first five months of 2019, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technology. Blended and Portland cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 5.9 per cent to 8.7Mt in April 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The largest US markets were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia, which accounted for a combined share of 42 per cent of such shipments. The Argentine cement market contracted by 11.4 per cent YoY to 860,631Mt in June, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Total cement sales in Egypt declined 7.7 per cent QoQ to 10.9Mt during the first quarter of 2019, while production decreased 8.1 per cent QoQ to 11.2Mt, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The average price of cement slipped 0.8 per cent to EGP1190/t (US$71.2/t) in the 1Q19.
