Ukraine cement output up 77% in March

Ukraine’s cement producers increased output of cement by 77.3 per cent YoY to 0.717Mt, according to data from the Ukrainian State Statistics Service. Compared with production in February 2019, output increased 8.8 per cent from 0.538Mt. In 2018 cement production slipped one per cent YoY to 8.926Mt.

Cement shortage in Senegal intensifies

Technical issues at Sococim’s cement factory are affecting the company’s clinker supply and are impacting on Senegal’s cement output, according to Senegal Direct. The country has already suffered a shortage of the product and has seen prices increase from XOF3000 (US$5.13)/bag to XOF3300/bag.

BCMA requests reduction in clinker import duty

The Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA) has requested a reduction in the specific rate duty on clinker imports to either BDT200/t (US$2.37/t) or a fixed duty of five per cent. Cement manufacturers currently pay BDT500/t, according to the Dhaka Tribune. The overall output of Pakistan's Large-Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) fell by 1.7 per cent for July-February 2018-19 compared to July-February 2017-18, reports Pakistan's Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 11 per cent YoY to 6.4Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Peru’s cement consumption advanced 4.8 per cent to 0.931Mt in March 2019 when compared with March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. The figure includes 105,500t of cement imports, up 116 per cent from 48,900t in March 2018. Cement demand in Argentina has fallen 13.8 per cent YoY to 940,112t in March 2019 when compared  with 1,091,122t in March 2018, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. However, MoM consumption edged up 2.1 per cent. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the USA reached 6.176Mt in December 2018, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). When compared with a volume of 6.244Mt in December 2017, this represents a 1.1 per cent YoY decrease.
