Despite undertaking one of the largest maintenance campaigns of the past 16 years, the Cemento Cienfuegos’ plant in Cienfuegos, Cuba, will continue to deliver cement to areas affected by hurricanes. Paraguay’s Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has sold 10,876,593 bags of cement in the first 10 months of 2017, a drop of 17.6 per cent YoY, according to the company’s sales department. In October, sales improved by nine per cent YoY from 982,868 bags in October 2016 to 1,075,196 bags in October 2017. State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem), the country’s leading cement producer, sold 20.93Mt of cement in the first 10 months of 2017. The volume reflects a drop of 1.1 per cent YoY. Cement sales in Puerto Rico down 47% in October

Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell 47.1 per cent in October 2017 when compared with the previous year as result of the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Cement sales have been declining since 2013 and fell by 12.3 per cent in 2016. Output from domestic cement plants has fallen by 52.9 per cent YoY in 2017, reflecting an acceleration of production contraction from 11.5 per cent in 2016.

Cement demand in Peru increased 3.3 per cent MoM and 12.1 per cent YoY to 0.925Mt in October 2017, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In October Argentina cement producers delivered 1,150,386t of cement, including exports, according to the Argentine cement producers association, AFCP. This represents a two per cent rise MoM and 23.2 per cent YoY. Of this total, domestic deliveries stood at 1,141,190t, up 23.3 per cent YoY, while exports increased 14.5 per cent YoY to 9196t. Cement sales in Puerto Rico fell by 70.2 per cent YoY in September. While sales have been declining since 2013, the size of the reduction in September has been attributed to the economic inactivity following the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
