Argentina’s market contracts 2% in January

Argentina’s cement market saw a two per cent contraction to 877,200t in January 2022 when compared with January 2021 when sales reached 895,416t, reports the country’s cement association, AFCP. When compared with the previous month, the drop was 14.4 per cent from 1,025,197t. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 9.2 per cent YoY hike to 9.4Mt in November 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Italy's production index gains 11% in 11M21

Cement production in Italy increased by eight per cent in October 2021 but slipped six per cent in November when compared with the base year of 2015, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. Compared with the previous year, this resulted in decreases of one and 11 per cent for October and November, respectively. Puerto Rico sees 8-year high in cement sales

Puerto Rican cement sales in 2021 reached 15.6m bags, or 679,300t - a high not seen in eight years, according to the country’s Statistics Institute. This represents a 12.5 per cent YoY advance. Total sales were up by 31.7 per cent from 12.4m bags to 16.3m bags. However, output from the country’s cement plants fell 29.5 percent to 7.4m bags. Production has been on the decline in the last three years, reports business newspaper Sin Comillas.

SONOCC announces resumption of production

Société nouvelle des ciments du Congo (SONOCC) will restart its production of cement from 31 January after several weeks of work stoppage, said the company’s Director General, Il Xingtao. It is expected that the additional output will help alleviate the cement shortage in the Republic of Congo and put an end to soaring cement prices. Pakistan's cement and clinker exports have reported mixed trends in the earlier part of FY2021-11. A local research house attributed the results to a drop in exports from the southern part of the country, leading to a subdued performance. Russia-based JSC Iskitimcement (owned by JSC HC Sibcem) produced 1.18Mt of cement in 2021, representing a 20 per cent YoY rise. The company also advanced sales by 21 per cent to 1.19Mt in the year. Iran's annual cement consumption falls by 5.4 per cent in FY2021

Annual cement consumption in Iran reached 59.87Mt in FY2021, reflecting a YoY contraction of 5.4 per cent, according to the Iran Cement Association.   Consumption in December 2021 was reported at 5.03Mt, marginally ahead on a YoY basis by 0.6 per cent.   Domestic clinker and cement production volumes reached 5.67Mt and 5.38Mt in December, respectively. Meanwhile, the country's clinker and cement export volumes were recorded at 0.99Mt and 0.415Mt, respectively.  

Peruvian cement market grows 5% in December

Peru’s cement market expanded by 4.7 per cent YoY in December 2021 to 1.275Mt when compared with the previous year’s December month, when consumption reached 1.218Mt, according to the country’s cement association Asocem. Brazilian cement sales totalled 4.8Mt in 2021, representing a 1.6 per cent increase YoY, according to SNIC, the national cement association. As a result, the industry closes 2021 with full-year domestic sales of 64.3Mt, up 6.4 per cent YoY.
