Carthage Cement sees reduced COVID-19 impact on 3Q results

Tunisia-based Carthage Cement reported a less severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its turnover in the third quarter of 2020. The company’s turnover fell by six per cent to TND172m (US$63m) from TND183m in the 3Q19. In the 2Q20 turnover had fallen by 16 per cent due to the pandemic. South Valley Cement sees net loss contract in the 1H20

Egypt’s South Valley Cement has seen its net loss contract to EGP69.82m (US$4.45m) in the 1H20, compared with EGP100.82m in the 1H19. However, in the 2Q20 sales declined 21.5 per cent YoY to EGP196m from EGP249.67m in the corresponding period of 2019.

Cilas de Biskra exports 50,000t of clinker to Gabon

Algeria-based cement producer Cilas de Biskra has exported a shipment of 50,000t of clinker from Annaba to Gabon, according to Hafid Ouchiche, export director of LafargeHolcim Algérie. It is the fourth export shipment to Africa by Cilas and since January, the company has exported 0.5Mt of clinker. Libya's Zliten plant resumes production

Libya’s Arab Union Construction Company (AUCC) has announced that its Zliten cement factory has resumed production, following a stoppage of more than a month. Production is expected to increase gradually, according to the Libya Herald. The high demand for cement in the country has sent prices soaring recently due to a shortage in supply. In August the price of local cement had risen to more than LYD75/t (US$53), compared to around LYD30 a year ago.

Moroccan cement deliveries increased 7.9 per cent YoY to 1,244,689t in September 2020 from 1,154,101 in the year-ago period, according to data by the Ministry of Urbanisation and Housing. The infrastructure sector saw its deliveries rise by 36 per cent to 58,170t while building increased its offtake by 6.7 per cent to 58,187t. Qalaa Holdings has reported its consolidated financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2020, with revenues of EGP7.4bn (US$470m), up 105 per cent YoY. " Qalaa’s performance was anchored by a recovering cement market in Sudan and an optimised pricing strategy by Al Takamol, which played a key role in offsetting the impacts of Egypt's underperforming cement market," said Qalaa Holdings' Chairman and Founder, Ahmed Heikal.
