Semen Indonesia improves 9M net profit and carbon performance

Indonesia-based PT Semen Indonesia Group (SIG) posted a net profit of IDR1.65trn (US$105.7m) in the January-September 2022 period, up 18.9 per cent from IDR1.39trn in the 9M21. In the cement division, sales reached IDR22.678trn while other revenues reached IDR7.506trn. Cement carrier sinks off the coast of Taiwan

A search for 12 missing crew members continues off the coast of Taiwan after their cement carrier sank. The 10,000dwt Xing Shun No 1, built in 2014, sank on Monday, 31 October, on the east side of the Changhua channel in the Taiwan Strait. The Panama-flagged ship had 17 seafarers on board. Total cement dispatches in Vietnam surged by 25 per cent YoY to 4,631,353t in September 2022, according to data published by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Cement consumption in Vietnam increased by 37 per cent YoY in August 2022, according to data published by the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). VICEM sales improved by 39 per cent YoY to 1,555,599t in August, while VNCA-affiliated companies saw their combined sales surge by 68 per cent YoY to 10,150,041t. Vietnam's cement sector has come under pressure from falling consumption, particularly in its key export markets. Exports of clinker and cement amounted to 24.7Mt in the first 9M22, down 25 per cent in volume and 14 per cent in value YoY, according to the Department of Building Materials (DBM) under the Ministry of Construction. PT Semen Indonesia saw a 2.1 per cent slip in total revenues to IDR15.876trn in the 1H22 when compared with the year-ago period. The company attributed the decrease mainly to lower sales volumes, which were down by 12 per cent YoY to 16.957Mt.
