Cementos del Tajo starts rail transport for clinker imports

The Toledo company Cementos del Tajo (G2 Hormigón group) will transport clinker by train from the port of Cartagena in southern Spain to Noblejas (Toledo), central Spain. The company has needed a special authorisation from network rail company Adif to take the first load of this product by train from Escombreras.  The railway service foresees a frequency of two weekly trains travel over 400km with approximately 3000t of clinker to reach a total figure between 75,000-150,000t of clinker mo...

Uzbekistan sees lower cement output and import in 1Q22

Uzbekistan produced 2.448Mt of cement in the first quarter of 2022, down from 1.949Mt in the 1Q22, according State Statistics Committee. In the January-March 2022 period Uzbekistan imported 425,300t of cement with a total value of US$16.7m, representing an average price of US$39/t. When compared with the 1Q21 import volumes fell by 342,000t. In 2022 the country expects to significantly increase cement capacity from 21.3Mt in 2021 to 31Mt.

Peru sees 10% hike in consumption in April

Cement dispatches in Peru increased 10 per cent YoY to 1.086Mt in April 2022 from 0.984Mt in the equivalent period of 2021, according to cement association, Asocem. Domestic cement production by Asocem members in April 2022 edged up by five per cent to 1.023Mt when compared with 0.973Mt in April 2021. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports,  in the USA and Puerto Rico saw a 19 per cent hike to 6.8Mta in February 2022 when compared with February 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The Argentine cement demand increased by 9.6 per cent YoY in April 2022 to reach 1,039,320t, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In April 2021 cement’s consumption stood at 947,965t. Italy's cement production index (base year 2015) increased from 65 in January 2022 to 86 in February 2022, an advance of three per cent when compared with February 2021, according to Federbeton, the country’s concrete association. Vietnam’s cement and clinker exports are expected to record an annual drop of 1.5 and two per cent YoY, respectively, to 45Mt in 2022-23, according to VNDirect Securities. Cement dispatches in Peru increased eight per cent YoY to 1.173Mt in March 2022, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. In March 2021 dispatches were at a level of 1.089Mt.
