Argentina’s cement market expanded 9.2 per cent YoY but contracted 1.1 per cent MoM to 1,212,814t in September 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Domestic producers manufactured 1,217,796t of cement, up 8.6 per cent YoY but down 1.1 per cent MoM. Cement production in Italy fell by 13 per cent YoY in July 2021, according to the country’s construction chamber, Federbeton. When compared with the 2015 base index production the value increased from 94 in June 2022 to 100 in July. Russian cement producers ask for import duties

The strengthening of the ruble has made imports of cement from Iran, Kazakhstan and Belarus more profitable, according to Esmerk Russian News. As a result, total imports of cement into Russia could increase to 7Mta, forcing domestic producers to reduce capacity and mothball plants. Therefore, they have asked for protective measures such as import duties to be established.

Tajikistan leading cement importer in Uzbekistan

The State Committee of Uzbekistan on Statistics said the country receives the largest part of its cement imports from Tajikistan, which exported in the 8M22 approximately 625,000t of cement into Uzbekistan. Tajikistan produced 2.9Mt of cement in the January-August 2022 period. Other key importers include Kyrgyzstan and Kazakstan, which exported 458,000t and 409,000t, respectively to Uzbekistan.

Cement deliveries in USA and Puerto Rico remain stable in July

Portland and blended cement shipments in the USA and Puerto Rico remained stable at 9.6Mt in July 2022 when compared with July 2021, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Cement consumption was the highest in Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Georgia received together 37.5 per cent of July shipments. Cement dispatches in Peru edged up by three per cent YoY to 1.227Mt in August 2022 when compared with 1.192Mt dispatched in August 2021, according to the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. Armenia reduces import duty for cement

Armenia’s parliamentary committee on economic affairs has given the green light on a bill by ruling Civil Contract Party MP Babken Tunyan on the lowering of import duty on cement and abolishing import duties on clinker. If passed by parliament, the cement import duty will fall from AZD14,000 to AZD9000 while clinker import duties will no longer be levied. The new bill is expected to address the shortage of cement in the market.

Portland and blended cement consumption in the USA and Puerto Rico increased seven per cent to 10.8Mt in June 2022, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). A total of 36.7 per cent of demand originated from the top five cement-consuming states: Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois. Cement consumption in Argentina increased by 13.2 per cent YoY and seven per cent MoM to 1,226,646t in August 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In August 2021 demand reached 1,083,824t and in July 2022 1,146,900t was sold on the home market. Domestic cement producers manufactured a total of 1,231,760t of cement, up 12.3 per cent YoY and 6.9 per cent MoM. Bangladesh sees imports of raw materials rise

The import of raw materials used in cement production has increased in recent months despite raw material prices increasing. In the July-August 2022 period a total of 5.12Mt of clinker, granulated slag, limestone, gypsum and fly ash were imported.
