BCMA calls on government to lower customs duty on clinker

The Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA) has urged the country’s government to reduce the customs duty on clinker.  Cement producers are currently required to pay a duty of BDT500/t (US$4.61/t) on imported clinker. The government has proposed to increase this to BDT700 in its budget for the next fiscal year. Cement demand in Argentina slips in May

The Argentine cement market contracted 1.5 per cent YoY to 1,072,110t in May 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. In May 2022 domestic consumption reached 1,088,000t. However, MoM demand was up 4.2 per cent from 1,028,598t in April 2023. Market demand was entirely supplied by domestic production, which contracted two per cent YoY from 1,098,484t to 1,076,287t in May 2023. Devki Group to boost clinker exports

National Cement (Devki Group) has announced that it will export up to 80 per cent of the clinker it produces when its new West Pokot plant in Kenya starts production. This will see increased clinker supply to the neighbouring countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Total shipments of Portland and blended cements, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico declined by six per cent YoY to 8.7Mt in March 2023, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).  Of the total blended volume reported, 3.2Mt, or 96 per cent, was estimated to be Portland limestone cement (Type IL). Cement dispatches in Peru fell by 17 per cent YoY to 0.883Mt in April 2023, according to the Peruvian cement association, Asocem. Of this total, 0.851Mt was delivered by Asocem members. Cement sales in Argentina fell by one per cent to 1,028,656t in April 2023 from 1,039,320t in April 2022, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP. Italian cement production up 3% in February

Cement production in Italy increased by three per cent YoY in February 2023, according to the country’s construction chamber, Federbeton. When compared with the 2015 base index production the value advanced from 66 in January to 87 in February 2023. Cement prices in February 2023 remained stable MoM at 212 when compared with the base year of 2015 (=100). Federbeton reported a 35 per cent increase when compared with February 2022.
