Grande Cimenterie du Katanga plans 1.2Mta output in 2020

La Grande Cimenterie du Katanga (GCK), Democratic Republic of Congo, expects to produce 1.2Mta of cement in 2020, according to a report by Agence Congolaise de Presse. GECAMINES, in partnership with China Cement and HMIE Group, is investing US$160m to build a plant. The joint venture was formed on 13 July 2011 and subsequently, in 2017, was expanded to enable it to have the required capital.

CMM plant starts operations

Ciment et Matériaux du Mali (CMM) has officially launched its cement business, announcing the first bags for sale by 15 October from its cement plant in Diago, Mali. CMM started the construction of the 0.5Mta unit in 2017. The XOF20bn (US$33.4m) new plant will create 150 direct jobs and 1500 indirect jobs.

Oman Cement Co appoints consultancy for Duqm plant

Oman Cement Co has appointed “a leading consultant company” to work on its upcoming Duqm cement plant as a project consultant, reports New Vision. While it did not name the consultancy, it confirmed that its Duqm integrated plant would have a capacity of 5000tpd. The project, which was approved by the company’s board of directors in December 2018, represents an investment of around US$212m.

Cherat Cement Co Ltd (CHCC) has become the sixth-largest cement producer with eight per cent market share in Pakistan following the successful installation and commissioning of Cement Line III at the Lakrai plant, Nowshera district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Guatemala’s Monterrey group has laid the first stone for a new 120,000tpa cement plant on the Acajutla-Sonsonate road in Acajutla, El Salvador. Construction will be carried out by Qualicons, a Guatemalan capital construction company. The facility is located near an industrial dock, which will enable raw material imports from Asia. The new works represents an investment of US$12m and is expected to provided 600 people with employment. Commissioning of the plant is expected in December 2019.
