Sagar Cements set to increase capacity to 8.25Mta

India’s Sagar Cements is reportedly increasing capacity to 8.25Mta by the end of December, according to BusinessLine. The company opened a 1Mta integrated plant in Madhya Pradesh in October, which took capacity from 5.75Mta to 6.75Mta, while the commissioning of another plant in Odisha next month should take it to 8.25Mta. Sagar Cements has invested INR6bn (US$80.72m) and INR3.05bn in the plants in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, respectively.

Power supply switching station ready for Huaxin Cement

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has commissioned the switching station in Dhading district that will be supplying electricity to the Huaxin Cement plant that is under construction. According to the NEA, the switching station was charged on Friday by using the electricity supply from Marsyangdi-Syuchatar 132kV transmission line. Birla Corp plans to reach 30Mta of capacity by 2027

India’s Birla Corp is setting a new target of reaching 30Mta of production capacity by 2027. Its current capacity is 15.6Mta but this is expected to rise to almost 20Mta by the end of the fiscal year, when its 3.9Mta Mukutban plant is commissioned. Birla had previously set a target of reaching 25Mta by 2025. The details of the new expansion plan will be announced when it has been approved by the board, according to Harsh V Lodha, chairman of Birla Group.

Odisha approves Jajpur cement projects

The state government of Odisha, India, has approved the proposal of My Home Industries Pvt Ltd to set up a 3Mta cement grinding unit at Badchana, Jajpur district. The project represents an investment of INR6.5bn (US$88.9m). Ramco Cements Ltd’s INR1.9bn project to expand its existing facility at Haridaspur, Jajpur district, with a 0.9Mta grinding plant was also cleared by the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority meeting.

Cemento Rocafuerte opens Belize's first cement plant

Cemento Rocafuerto, a subsidiary of Guatemala-based Cemento Progreso, has opened Belize’s first cement plant at Mile 34 of the George Price Highway, near the capital Belmopan, in the presence of the country’s Prime Minister, John Briceño. LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim México saw the commissioning of its new 0.65Mta grinding plant in Umán, Yucatán. The Umán plant will be supplied with clinker from production facilities in Macuspana, Tabasco, and Orizaba, Veracruz. Cementos Concepción (Cecon) in Paraguay has completed around 70 per cent of the civil engineering works at its new plant, according to Esmerk Latin American News. The 1.03Mta plant is located in Concepción, San Lázaro, south of Vallemí. The US$200m project is expected to start production in August 2022.

New Agadir plant to enter production in July

LafargeHolcim’s new cement plant in Souss-Massa, 45km southwest of Agadir, Morocco, is expected to be commissioned at the end of July. The 1.6Mta plant represents an investment of MAD3bn (US$334.6m) and is equipped with the latest technologies, in line with the company’s “Plant of Tomorrow” concept. It will include automation, robotic, artificial intelligence and predictive maintenance technologies. Moreover, from 2023, the plant will be supplied with wind power and use alternative fuels.

Sacko Holding to build new plant in Mali

Sacko Holding SA, a private Mali-based company, has finalised the funding of a US$300m cement plant in Bema, 30km from Diéma on the Noro du Sahel road, Mali.
