Following events in the UK steel industry, the plight of the country’s cement sector is beginning to cause concern. Since 2007, the UK cement industry has been under pressure from high energy prices and rising production costs. Innovations in alternative fuels and green cements reflect a modernising industrial base, but cement demand is muted and reliant on housebuilding, with successive governments failing to narrow a growing deficit.
