HPC-based CO2 capture: flue gas testing at Dotternhausen

In an industry where deep decarbonisation has long been discussed more than demonstrated, the summer of 2025 marked a decisive shift. At Holcim’s Dotternhausen cement plant in southern Germany, hot potassium carbonate (HPC) carbon capture moved out of theory and into real-world operation, becoming the first system of its kind tested on a German cement plant under continuous industrial conditions.
