With so much of the plastic waste that ends up in our oceans coming from landfills, INSEE Ecocycle decided to remove the plastic from Thailand’s landfills to produce refuse derived fuel (RDF) for use in cement kilns. It has already set up four mining sites across Thailand to collect the plastic and last year alone produced 123,871t of RDF, equivalent to over 11bn plastic bags. Not only does the project eliminate the leakage of plastic into our seas, it also stands as an example to other companies that they too can make a difference.
