CRH's underlying sales in the first four months of 2014 improved by around 10 per cent in Europe and by about two per cent in the Americas. The weather effects were the inverse of the same period last year, as this time Europe had a much milder winter, while parts of North America suffered from a very cold first few months. Some EUR60m was spent on seven relatively-modest acquisitions during the period, considerably less than the EUR230m spent during the same period last year or even the EUR135m spent the year before.
