PT Indocement, along with Indonesia’s other cement producers, are bracing themselves as storms and high rainfall continue to play havoc with cement consumption in the country. January saw cement sales fall by 2.3 per cent YoY to 5.27Mt as poor weather and flooding delayed a number of key infrastructure projects, particularly housing, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). The only exception was Maluku and Papua in the east where sales grew by 21 per cent. In contrast Kalimantan saw sales slump in January by 13 per cent, followed by Sumatra (-6.3 per cent), Bali and Nusa Tenggara (-2.7 per cent) and Java (-.06 per cent).
