UltraTech Cement
Production at UltraTech’s cement plant in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, previously owned by Jaiprakash Associates (JA), moved one step closer this month following a decision by the Indian state cabinet. A cabinet decision taken in May 2016 stated that, as a penalty for mining forested land, JA had to purchase an equal quantity of land, as identified by the government, and maintain a plantation on the land for 10 years. Only once this has been agreed can operations begin at the Sonbhadra plant.
