Votorantim Cimentos has reported a 3.7 per cent YoY increase in its consolidated net revenue from goods sold and services in the opening half of this year to BRL5.822bn (US$1.403bn). Gross profit over the same period contracted 7.1 per cent to BRL825.3m on the back of a 5.8 per cent YoY uptick in the cost of goods sold and services. Operating profit in the 1H19 expanded by 54.8 per cent YoY to BRL517.4m, while net profit improved significantly, rising to BRL118.9m from a loss of BRL290.9m in the 1H18.

Votorantim has also launched a new co-processing business unit, known as Verdera. Based in Rio Branco do Sul, Verdera will offer businesses and industries in the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina disposal services for a wide range of wastes, including those that need to be crushed and homogenised. For the other states, the focus will initially be on waste that can be sent directly for co-processing. In recent years, Votorantim has invested BRL300m (US$71.6m) in co-processing and today the company uses a wide range of biomass for co-processing, such as rice husks, tyres, textiles etc. Over the next five years, it intends to invest a further BRL370m in its co-processing business unit.
