Lafarge suffers loss on high tax payment

Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe reported a loss of ZWD1174m (US$4.9m) for 1H18 due to a significant tax settlement. In 2017, the company disclosed a contingent liability of ZWD7.9m relating to a tax assessment for the 2009-13 period. Last June the matter was heard in the courts but the judgment is yet to be handed down. Hsing Ta Cement's revenue up 33% in September

Taiwanese cement manufacturer Hsing Ta Cement has recorded a 32.6 per cent YoY surge in revenue for September 2018, rising to TWD690.78m (US$22.30m) from TWD521.03m. In the first nine months of 2018, the company has seen a 26 per cent increase in revenue to TWD4.71bn, compared with TWD3.74bn of the year-ago period.

Dewan Cement's net profit falls to PKR902m

Dewan Cement Limited (DCL) has announced that its net profit declined to PKR902m (US$7.33m) in financial year 2018 from PKR1.30bn earned in the same period last year. It shows profit dropped by 30.9 per cent, despite increase in net sale to PKR13.47bn from PKR12.85bn during this period. CIMAF reported a 42 per cent rise in cement sales to 184,723t in Gabon during the first half of 2018, according to the Economic and Fiscal Policy unit of Gabon’s Economics Ministry. In January-June 2017, sales reached 130,077t. The company’s production volumes increased 37.7 per cent in the six-month period to 178,518t, up from 129,596t in 6M17. Gharibwal Cement records 34% fall in net profit

Pakistan’s Gharibwal Cement Ltd has announced a 33.9 per cent YoY drop in net profit for the FY18 ended 30 June, falling to PKR1.509bn (US$12.2m) from PKR2.283bn. Despite this, sales increased 2.3 per cent to PKR11.48bn from PKR11.22bn. Distribution costs rose 19.7 per cent YoY to PKR383m against PKR320m of the previous year, while administrative expenses decreased 3.7 per cent to PKR2.6m from PKR2.7m.

Votorantim Cimentos saw its first-half turnover improve by 14.9 per cent to BRL5738m (EUR1177m/US$1428m), while the cement sales advanced by 18 per cent to BRL4191m (EUR890m). LafargeHolci­m’s Kenyan subsidiary Bamburi Cement has announced a first-half turnover of KES18,556m (EUR151.08m), an easing of 0.2 per cent, while the trading profit fell by 56.2 per cent to KES1200m (EUR10.21m) and the pretax profit dropped by 72.2 per cent to KES700m (EUR1.16m). Pakistan’s Fecto Cement Ltd has announced a 42 per cent YoY fall in profit for the FY18 ended 30 June, declining to PKR441m (US$3.56m) from PKR760m.
