India: Ramco appoints PR Venketrama Raja as new CMD

Ramco Cements has announced the appointment of P R Vektrama Raja as its new Chairman and Managing Director. The appointment is for a five-year term, starting 4 June 2017, said Ramco in a Bombay Stock Exchange filing. It follows the passing of Chaiman P R Ramasubrahaneya Rajha in March.

Pakistan cement exports continue to disappoint

Pakistan exported 225,778t cement in April on revenues of US$13.49m, down 25.28 and 18.54 per cent, respectively compared to the previous month. Compared to April 2016, export volumes were down by 49.65 per cent from 507,958t and revenues fell by 49.65 per cent (US$26.31m) a year earlier, data from Pakistan's Federal Bureau of Statistics shows. Shares of Shree Cement declined over five per cent on Wednesday after the company said its profits more than halved in March quarter. The company reported a standalone profit of INR304.5bn (US$4.73bn) for the fourth quarter ended 31 March, compared with INR663bn, reported for the same period last year, said the Economic Times.
