Argentina: May cement deliveries increase 2.6 per cent MoM

In May 2014, Argentina’s cement producers delivered 929,202t of cement (including exports), up 2.6 per cent when compared with April, but down 8.5 per cent YoY. Domestic demand, including imports, increased 2.7 per cent MoM to 920,093t. Compared with May 2013, however, it fell by 7.8 per cent.

The Colombian cement market expanded by 4.3 per cent YoY in April 2014 as 0.957Mt were delivered to domestic customers, according to the latest report from national statistics office, Dane. Around 11.2Mta of grey cement was produced in Colombia in 2013, mainly due to a boost in the market from social housing construction, according to DANE, the national statistics office. “It was a very good year in dispatches and production, driven by buildings and infrastructure,” said Sandra Forero Ramirez, president of the Colombian Chamber of Construction (Camacol). Brazilian monthly cement sales rise 4.9% YoY

Brazilian cement sales in April 2014 climbed by 4.9 per cent YoY to 5.9Mt, preliminary data and market estimates gathered by Sindicato Nacional da Industria do Cimento (SNIC) reveal. During January - April 2014, sales totalled 22.8Mt, a 3.3 per cent rise compared to the first four months of last year. Accumulated cement sales for the 12 months between May 2013 - April 2014 reached 70.7Mt, expanding by three per cent compared to the same period of the previous year (May 2012 - April 2013).

Colombia’s cement producers raise output by 16% in March 2014

Colombia’s cement production rose in March 2014 by 16 per cent, particularly in Cundinamarca (+35 per cent), Antioquia (+33.3 per cent), Bogotá (+22 per cent) and Valle del Cauca (+26 per cent). These latest advances in output see first-quarter 2014 cement production increase by 9.8 per cent, underlining previous expectations that the construction sector is contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth.

Holcim's results boosted by mild winter in Europe

Holcim's first quarter turnover declined by 5.4 per cent to CHF4,088m (€3,342m), but on a like-for-like basis, there was a 7.8 per cent increase while measured in euros the turnover was off by five per cent.  The operating EBITDA declined by 5.1 per cent to CHF617m (€504m), but this represents an underlying increase of 10.1 per cent. Chile’s Cemento Melón has seen sales drop by 10 per cent in the first quarter of 2014. Brazil’s first quarter sales rose 6.4 per cent YoY to 17.1Mt, preliminary data from SNIC shows. Sales in March reached 5.6Mt, representing YoY growth of 1.9 per cent compared to the same month of 2013. Cumulative sales for the last 12 moths (April 2013 – March 2014) rose by 4.3 per cent against the comparative period  of the previous year (April 12 – March 2013).

Cemex delivers 640 new homes as part of Colombian affordable housing initiative

Cemex announced Tuesday that it has completed 640 apartments in Colombia as part of a 3000-unit urbanisation project being undertaken by the company in collaboration with the country's government. The full project comprises 3,000 apartments divided into 96 towers of four stories each. The complexes will include recreational and green areas.
