L&T Construction wins order for cement plants

The Building and Factories sector of L&T Construction has won orders worth a total of INR40.33bn (US$592.74m) in the Indian domestic market, according to a BSE filing. The city of Al-Bayda in Libya will be the location of a 4000tpd greenfield cement plant. Ali Hussein, the city mayor, has held a meeting with a number of German investors in the presence of several businessmen from the city to examine the possibility of establishing a cement factory within the municipality. The meeting agreed upon a plan to establish a 1.3Mta cement plant located south of the municipality, taking into consideration the compliance with the recognised environmental standards.

Growth of Indian cement sector slows in March

The growth of Indian cement output has slowed in March to 13 per cent, compared to 23 per cent of the previous month. However, the cement sector was one of the principal performers throughout FY18, according to Aditi Nayar, principal economist at ICRA. Hima Cement has announced that its UGX144bn (US$40m) new plant in Tororo, Uganda, will begin operations next month. Vicem Hoang Mai Cement receives approval to construct plant

Despite issuing a request to relocate last year, authorities of Vietnam’s Nghe An province have now granted approval for Vicem Hoang Mai Cement JSC to develop its Hoang Mai 2 facility in the area, according to Viet Nam News. Therefore, the company will construct the plant in the originally intended location of Hoang Mai 2 industrial park, Quynh Vinh commune. Once fully operational, the plant will have a 0.92Mta clinker capacity and a capability to produce 1.15Mta of cement.
