UltraTech Cement FY17 sales edge ahead

UltraTech Cement, an Aditya Birla group company, yesterday reported consolidated sales for FY17 of INR250.92bn (US$3.89bn) against INR248.8bn in the previous year. Profit before interest, depreciation and tax of INR58.61bn was nine per cent higher and profit after tax up 10 per cent YoY to INR27.15bn. Lucky Cement 9MFY16-17 profit and volumes increase

Lucky Cement achieved a profit before tax of PKR14.668bn (US$140.2m) during the first nine months of FY16-17 compared to the PKR13.395bn recorded in the same period a year earlier. Cement volumes increased by 8.3 per cent to 5.53Mt in the nine month period. Exports, however, were down by 23.09 per cent. Ecocem appeal likely to be heard next month

Ecocem’s appeal agains a US authority’s decision to refuse it planning permission for a EUR45m mill could be heard next month, the Irish Times reports. The planning commission in Vallejo, California, recently refused Ecocem’s subsidiary, Orcem Americas, permission to build on the city’s waterfront based on environmental concerns. Orcem subsequently appealed the ruling with Vallejo city council. This is likely to be heard between 30 May and 1 June, according to the report in the daily. ...

Bangladesh: Meghna Cement Mills to raise capacity

Meghna Cement Mills, part of the  Bashundhara Group, plans to increase grinding capacity at its Bangladesh-based plant with the installation of a vertical roller mill. The company, which sells its cement under the King brand, has reportedly signed a contract with FLSmidth for supply of the mill, according to a report by the Daily Star (Bangladesh). The cement producer expects that the investment will help boost its profitability by 70 per cent.

A US local authority has formally opposed Ecocem’s plans for a EUR45m mill project in Vallejo. Savannah Cement has unveiled plans to increase its Athi River plant to 2.4Mta, almost doubling its current 1.5Mta capacity, Business Daily Africa reports.
