PT Semen Bosowa is seeking a US$700m-800m loan from national and foreign banks to expand its business to 10Mta by 2015. The Egyptian government is to start resuming its cement licensing programme to attract investment, particularly foreign interest, according to an official at the Ministry of Finance. Vietnam first-half output seen down

Vietnam produced 27.3Mt of cement in the first half of this year, down 5.9 per cent from a year earlier, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) showed. During June, the country produced 5.5Mt, an increase of 15.8 per cent YoY, the GSO said in its monthly report. Chettinad Cements plans Karikkali plant expansion, India

India-based Chettinad Cement is considering the expansion of its Karikkali cement plant in Tamil Nadu from 4.5Mta to 7Mta. According to reports in the Times of India, Chettinad is also planning to increase capacity of its captive power plant from 48MW to 78MW. UltraTech Cement receives environmental approval for expansion

UltraTech Cement has received environmental clearance for its expansion plans for two of its plants in Madhya Pradesh. The Environment Ministry has given clearance for UltraTech to its clinker plant from 3.59Mt to 6.2Mta and its cement plant from 4Mta to 10.33Mta. The company also plans to expand its captive power plant from 46MW to 122MW. The plants are located in Damodarpura and Khor villages in Neemuch district of Madhya Pradesh.

Qatar National Cement to build new plant

The board of directors of Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) has approved the construction of a new plant with a clinker capaicty of 5000tpd, the company said in a statement to the bourse. The board has mandated the company’s management to take the necessary steps to execute the project, SeeNews Middle East and Africa reports. QNCC reported a net profit of QAR117.9m for the first quarter of 2012, up from QAR113.7m  a year earlier.

New Nigerian plant to begin production soon

Cement production at the Igumale Cement Factory in Nigeria is to commence this month, according to local press reports. The 600,000tpa cement factory situated in Benue State, is a joint venture between the state government and a Chinese partner Zhengzhou Cangxi and Commerce Development Company Ltd. The project, was initiated in 2001, is to be completed in “due course” according to Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Hon. Terfa Atoza Ihindan. (Source: The Leadership).

Vietnam facing 6Mt surplus by year-end

Vietnam is projected to face a surplus of 6Mt of cement this year, the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA) said. Domestic output is expected to reach between 60-62Mt, outstripping forecasted full-year domestic sales of 47-48Mt and exports 7-8Mt forecasts, the association was quoted by the financial website CafeF as saying Tuesday.
