Shaping southeast Asia

Ahead of Cemtech Asia in Singapore, 9-12 July 2017, ICR takes a moment to consider the changing make-up of southeast Asia’s cement capacity. The region has been at the forefront of cement industry growth for the last decade and, while the impetus for new capacity has started to ease, several key regional players have emerged and are now extremely influential in determining regional cement trade and supply.

The southeast Asian cement industry is entering a new phase in its history. Strong, locally-based companies are displacing the international majors as the main driving force in terms of capacity addition and merger & acquisition activities. A select group of ambitious companies are now playing a decisive role in shaping the regional market as they expand agressively away from their home bases into complementary markets elsewhere in the region.
