Blending boost for Lesotho

In a first step towards creating a fully-fledged cement manufacturing capacity in South Africa’s neighbour Lesotho, construction materials supplier AfriSam has opened a new cement blending and packing facility in the country’s capital, Maseru. By AfriSam, South Africa.

South Africa-based AfriSam has for many years supplied the Lesotho market and holds a strong market share. Speaking at the official opening of the new plant in January, Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Dr Pakalitha Mosisili, said the Lesotho blending plant was a “significant milestone” for the region and a powerful factor in economic and social development. “It is recognised in developed countries that one job in the cement industry creates 10 times more indirect jobs in both upstream and downstream economic sectors,” said Dr Mosisili. “This figure may be four to five times higher in developing countries.”
