I wish to learn more about calculating a ball mill ball charge size distribution, could anybody refer any texts, articles etc so I can get started on this.

Initial charge you can find in literature somewhere. It is not something very special. BUT afterwards you need to conduct longitudinal seiving test to adjust it according to material to be ground and quality of finished product.
