Siam Cement CEO wins ‘Businessman of the Year’ award
30 December 2011

The Nation, a Thailand newspaper,  has announced that Kan Trakulhoon, president and chief executive officer of Siam Cement Group (SCG) is its Businessman of the Year. Kan, 55, safely guided the company through the period of severe flooding in Thailand in 2011 by implementing the company’s business-continuity plan.

SCG was outstanding in the way that it experienced minimal disruption in operations, even though the floods at one point or another covered one-fourth of the country.

To ensure smooth operations of the group, which consists of more than 200 companies in the cement, petrochemical, paper and distribution businesses, the plan was drawn up. And besides political eruptions, the business plan was designed with help from Accenture to smooth operations during unprecedented situations such as natural disasters.

Conceived after the political upheavals in 2010, the business-continuity plan was first activated during the flooding in 2011 allowing SCG to maintain normal contact with customers and suppliers.
