Ash Grove Cement temporarily shuts down six plants
25 October 2011

Ash Grove Cement Company plans to suspend operations temporarily at six of its 10 production plants in the Midwest and Western US. The shutdown comes amid growing inventories due to the economic situation in the US and forecast slowdown of demand during winter. It will be the company’s third consecutive furlough period.

In the West Region, the Durkee, Oregon, and Inkom, Idaho, plants will halt production on 5 December, with Montana City, Montana, to follow a fortnight later. The week of 26 December will see the Leamington, Utah, and Seattle, Washington, plants out of action. After New Year, the company’s Chanute, Kansas, works will enter a furlough. Foreman (AR), Louisville (NB), Midlothian (TX) and the grinding plant at Rivergate, Oregon, will all remain operational throughout this period.
