The chairman of the executive committee Cimpor Group, Francisco de Lacerda, and the Minister of Environment of the Council of Andalusia, José Juan Diaz Trillo, held a meeting yesterday during the annual convention that brings together executives of the cement company in Spain and Portugal, and which this year takes place in Seville. During the meeting, the chief executive of Cimpor exposed the difficulties facing the sector in Spain and stressed the efforts made by the company to modernise plants in Andalusia to boost their energy efficiency and be environmentally-friendly.

Francisco de Lacerda stressed the company’s environmental commitment as one of the continuing challenges to improve efficiency and productivity at a time when the industry is going through serious difficulties. The Minister of Environment, for his part, expressed the interest of the council to maintain technical collaboration with the cement companies.

Cimpor has invested in recent years about EUR60m to modernise the plants in Cordoba and Niebla (Huelva). Most of the investment is focused on improving energy efficiency to save power, improve worker safety and reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. In addition, the factory has increased its clinker production capacity of 1500tpd to 2200tpd.
