Nigeria sets up Cement Technology Institute

The Ministry of Trade and Investment, Nigeria, has established the Cement Technology Institute (CTI) in order to support the domestic cement industry and its activities through the acquisition and development of appropriate technology, and to ensure the availability of affordable cement throughout the country.

The Board of Trustees for the CTI, was recently appointed by Dr Olusegun Aganga, Minister, Trade and Investment, in the capital Abuja, and is chaired by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote Group, while Alhaji Lateef G. Salami, Director, Industrial Development departmet in the Ministry of Trade and Investment, has been appointed Chairman of the Project Implementation Team.

The Institute is mandated  to carry out research and development, promote adoption of sustainable alternative technologies, and human capacity building in the cement sub-sector of the economy.

The CTI will also be responsible for the positioning of Nigeria as a net exporter of cement with the capacity to meet the needs of the ECOWAS sub-region.
