New Zealand plant decision expected soon

An announcement on whether Holcim’s planned cement plant planned for Oamaru will go ahead could be made imminently.

Holcim New Zealand met yesterday with the project, planned to be built 10km outside of Oamaru at Weston, on its agenda.

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton said yesterday he expected an announcement today or tomorrow.

However, the board could decide to delay the decision for another meeting or to request more information, he said.

"But fingers crossed there will be a positive outcome."

He said the council had been working towards making the district an attractive option for the company.
