Indian producers report improved monthly sales growth

Leading Indian cement manufacturers have managed to achieve better sales growth in the range of 7.4-28 per cent in July in spite of monsoon which is usually a lean season for the sector.

While the market leader by capacity, Aditya Birla Group-controlled Ultratech Cement, said its July sales rose to 3.13Mt, a growth of 7.4 per cent, the number two ACC had the best numbers with 28.21 per cent spike in sales during July to 2Mt against 1.56Mt YoY.

Ultratech’s production also increased to 3.10Mt, or 7.3 per cent, the company said, while its cumulative sales during the April-July period stood at 12.79Mt compared to 12.80Mt YoY, and production grew to 12.80Mt over 12.86Mt during the same period.

ACC’s production also jumped to 2.03Mt in the month from 1.55Mt, the company said in a statement. Its cumulative sales during the January-July period stood at 14.18Mt compared to 12.43Mt YoY, while production grew to 14.21Mt over 12.49Mt during the same period.

The number three player by volume, Ambuja Cements, too registered double-digit sales growth, a 14.09 per cent increase at 1.7Mt over 1.49Mt in the corresponding period last year. Ambuja said its production increased to 1.67Mt in July this year from 1.41Mt in the corresponding period last year.

The cumulative dispatches for Ambuja Cement, during the January-July period, stood at 12.73Mt compared to 12.38Mt in the same period last year, while its production increased to 12.46Mt over 12.25Mt in January-July period of the last year, including clinker.

Infrastructure major Jaiprakash Associates cement division Jaypee Cements recorded an 18 per cent sales growth at 1.45Mt against 1.22Mt in the same month last year, while the cumulative April-July sales stood at 5.63Mt, which is 10 per cent higher than 5.12Mt in the year-ago period.
